Friends of BCAS - Weekly Email 10/13/11

Below is the contents of the weekly Adoptions & Newsletter email sent out on 10/13/11.

Hello, fellow Friends of BCAS volunteers!

Please spare a moment to read the following announcements:

DOG HANDLING CLASS: Animal Advocate John will be holding his next Yellow Dog Handling Class on Thursday, October 20th at 6 PM. Volunteers, come learn about handling potentially difficult dogs, and become approved to walk Yellow-rated shelter dogs!

VOLUNTEER NOTICE: Just in case you weren't aware, volunteers who haven't come to the shelter in three months are required to reattend an orientation before they're allowed to handle the animals again. We require this because we want to be sure that everybody is up to date on the animal handling rules. You'll be notified via email if you reach 3 months of inactivity. We can only track peoples' participation with our sign-in sheet, so make sure to sign in with every visit!

DOG WALKER REMINDER: Dog walkers, don't forget that Green-rated dogs can be located anywhere in the public areas of the dog runs, including the large room at the end (called "Yellow"). Some Green-rated dogs in the Yellow room are being missed. Also, confusingly, the room called "Green" is often missed. The dogs in the Green room are currently available to be walked, so don't forget them! The dog area's quite large, but if you're confused you can check with the layout map we have on the front of our volunteer cabinet in the conference room. Dog rooms are named based on the colors of the clipboards on the kennels.

VOLUNTEER OPP./JUNIOR PROGRAM: We'd love to start up a Junior Volunteer Program at the shelter, but we need to conduct some research before we attempt to establish a program. We're looking for some volunteer(s) to check out other shelters' Junior programs and see how they're run so we know what to expect. Please email Penny at fobcas@yahoo.com if you're interested in helping out with this!

VOLUNTEER OPP./ADOPTION RATES: We would like to help our shelter find ways to optimize their adoption prices. We need some volunteer(s) to research and document the details of how other shelters choose their adoption rates for cats and dogs, including special promotional prices. Please email Penny at fobcas@yahoo.com if you're interested in helping out with this!

VOLUNTEER OPP./CLINIC: Please consider volunteering for BCAA's next Snip It Clinic for Cats on Sunday the 16th in Browns Mills. The Clinic begins at 7:30 AM and runs until about 4 PM. Even spending a few hours with us would be welcome! Please email Leila at leilam1065@aol.com to help out. The more cats we help get spayed or neutered, the less cats flood our overcrowded shelter, and we need all the help we can get!

VOTE FOR OUR SHELTER: The Animal Rescue Site is giving away thousands of dollars in grants to shelters with the highest votes here: http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3 - Help us have a chance to win the grand prize of a $5000.00 grant by clicking the link, searching for Burlington County Animal Shelter, and voting for us! You can vote once every day until the contest ends mid-December.
