We NEED help with the following:
  • Fund-raising committee: We need folks for our fund-raising committee.  The committee will organize and hold various fundraisers, i.e. bake sales, money collection stations, etc.  We could benefit the animals more if we had some money to buy collars, advanced medical care, etc.
  • Promote a dog and cat of the month: Someone to creatively decorate the dog and/or cat's kennel to draw attention to the animal.  We will also provide give-a-ways to the adopter, i.e. bag of food, collar, toys, etc.  Please contact Penny at fobcas@yahoo.com if you want to facilitate the dog and/or cat every month.
  • Can you sell ice to an Eskimo? We need folks willing to contact local pet groomers, dog trainers, pet supply stores requesting donations or discounts for their services.  To help with the 'Pet of the Month' program, it would be nice if we could offer the adopters free and/or discounted grooming, training, supplies, etc. for their new pet.  This could be a win-win for us and the company donating their services/supplies. If interested, contact Penny at fobcas@yahoo.com.

April 2011 Volunteer Newsletter - 05/09/2011

The following was written by Penny, one of Friends of BCAS's coordinators, as the fourth monthly email to our volunteers.

Fellow Friends of BCAS volunteers,

Our number of volunteer visits to the shelter and volunteers hours decreased compared to the prior month.  In March we had 161 visits and 245 volunteer hours.  In April, we had 146 visits and 239 volunteer hours. That's a (9.4%) and (2.2%) decrease respectively.  (Please remember to sign in & out when you are at the shelter, so our statistics can be as accurate as possible.)

With the decline in volunteer visits & hours, we are falling short of getting the cats and dogs out of their kennels at least once a week.  We realize the weather is beautiful and everyone has yard work, spring cleaning and barbecues to attend, but please try to find some time to bring a little joy to the animals at the shelter.

March 2011 Volunteer Newsletter - 04/08/2011

The following was written by Penny, one of Friends of BCAS's coordinators, as the third monthly email to our volunteers.

Fellow Friends of BCAS volunteers,

Once again we are seeing the number of visits volunteers are making to the shelter and volunteer hours increase compared to the prior month, which is WONDERFUL!!  In February we had 106 visits and 176 volunteer hours.  In March, we had 161 visits and 245 volunteer hours. That's a 51% and 39% increase respectively.  (Please remember to sign in & out when you are at the shelter, so our statistics can be as accurate as possible.)

Those of you coming out to the shelter regularly know these statistics are not just numbers.  These statistics also represent purring cats and tail-wagging dogs.  It is a wonderful feeling when you approach a kennel and KNOW that cat or dog recognizes you :o)

I went through the shelter last Saturday, 4/2/11, and there were some dogs and cats who had not been out of their kennels for over two weeks.  Let's strive to get the dogs and cats out of their kennels at least once a week!!

February 2011 Volunteer Newsletter - 03/02/2011

The following was written by Penny, one of Friends of BCAS's coordinators, as the second monthly email to our volunteers.

Fellow Friends of BCAS volunteers,

We've seen a big increase in the number of times volunteers are coming out to the shelter, so THANK YOU!!  In January we had 57 visits to the shelter by our volunteers.  In February we had 106 visits.  That's an 86% increase with 3 less days in February.  An extra note of gratitude to:

Christian DiPonziano - over 12 hours playing with cats in February
Bernie O'Keefe - over 7 hours walking dogs in February and Bernie did not become a volunteer until 2/10

January 2011 Volunteer Newsletter - 02/01/11

The following was written by Penny, one of Friends of BCAS's coordinators, as the first monthly email to our volunteers.

Friends of BCAS volunteers,

The weather has been awful so far this winter, so we truly appreciate those of you who have been coming out to the shelter to warm an animal's heart.  If you have not been able to come out to the shelter, please try to find some time in your schedule.  We know the animals enjoy your visits.  We are beginning to see the volunteer program impact the number of animals finding homes vs. the alternative none of us likes to think about.
