Below is the contents of the weekly Adoptions & Newsletter email sent out on 8/4/11.
Hello, fellow Friends of BCAS volunteers!
Volunteer Stats for July 2011:
- Volunteer hours: 438.75 (+25% from June)
- Volunteer visits: 257 (+24% from June)
- Total volunteer participation: *48%
*Note: Several volunteers were removed from the database due to non-participation during the 2nd quarter (April-June).
Giant thanks to the following volunteers:
- Delano Byrd for 15 visits in July giving our cats some much needed attention.
- Carol Ingham for 16 visits in July to walk our smaller, adorable dogs.
- Brian Skelly walked dogs for over 24 hours in July. Brian handles our bigger babies, especially those in the back/yellow section.
- Our new sisterly dynamic duo, Jean Stone & Mary Porter. Jean posts our dogs on Craigslist, giving us another avenue to find adopters. She also promotes our volunteer program to anyone willing to listen!! Mary is doing an amazing job taking dog pics and posting them online.
- Terry & Brian Walsh, Judy Witt, Jane Pratt, Pat & John MacRonald, Nancy Call and Andrea & David Ferrare, thanks for participating at the Dog Days event on 7/30/11.
Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.
Please spare a moment to read the following announcements:
Help us understand you, our volunteer base, by doing this 6-question survey by the end of August, and get chance to win a free Friends of BCAS t-shirt! All feedback is very welcome, but we'd especially love to hear from our non-participating volunteers. You can answer anonymously!
• HELP BATHE YELLOW DOGS: We need some of our Yellow-level dog walkers to help our volunteer groomers hold some of the shelter's stronger dogs (Star, Tweeter, Blaze, Mia and more) so they can be groomed. Volunteers interested in helping out in this way should look for Nancy in the grooming room at the shelter on Thursday evenings around 5:30 PM.
• FUNDRAISING & EVENTS TEAM: Help us help the shelter by raising money (and awareness) for improvements! We're looking for people to help out with fundraisers and events such as bake sales, car washes, restaurant dine-outs, donation box placement, manning tables, writing grants and more. We'd like to get a strong team going so that no one single person is responsible for everything. Our current goal is to raise money for fencing to section off the courtyard, so that dog walkers will be able to play off-leash dogs any time! Please email Jenn at jennak87@yahoo.com or Penny at fobcas@yahoo.com if you'd like to help us with our fundraising efforts.
• VOLUNTEER REMINDER: Volunteers may not write on the animals' charts except for the orange Volunteer Sheet. Animals are given names by the volunteers who post them to online adoption listings, so please do not write names on nameless animals' paperwork unless you're a poster (or an employee, of course). Thanks!
• SPECIAL THANKS goes to Shelter Manager Jackie for getting additional fans installed in the dog kennels. We all know how hot it can get in there during the summer months, and while we humans can walk out any time, the dogs are there day in, day out. Any steps taken to keep our canine friends cool is appreciated all-around!
• VOTE FOR OUR SHELTER: The Animal Rescue Site is giving away thousands of dollars in grants to shelters with the highest votes here: http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clickToGive/shelterchallenge.faces?siteId=3 - Help us have a chance to win the grand prize of a $5000.00 grant by clicking the link, searching for Burlington County Animal Shelter, and voting for us! You can vote once every day until the contest ends.
...Thank you! And now, without further ado...
