BCAS & Volunteers at Earth Fair and Dog Walk - 6/18/11

On June 18th, 2011, Friends of the Burlington County Animal Shelter participated in two fun events: Waggin' Tails and Trails (a fun, health-themed dog walk open to the public) and the annual Burlington County Earth Fair, both held at Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton! We had a lot of fun, and I look forward to participating in next year's events.

The Dog Walk: Waggin' Tails and Trails:

I've only got a few pictures to show from the dog walk, though my fellow volunteer Terry W. might have something to say about my not posting the picture she took of me doing jumping jacks at a walking station manned by exercise-minded children!

Don't the dogs look happy? The little guy's D-41786 Toby and the bigger guy is D-39503 Patch. As of this posting, both of these wonderful dogs are still available for adoption at BCAS.

Annual Burlington County Earth Fair:

Vendors were lined up everywhere on the grounds of this gorgeous park (complete with mansion!). The vendors were displaying information and products on everything from solar power to test for harmful chemical ingredients to garden plants.

And of course there were animal displays, like the Burlington County Animal Shelter!

Because the shelter was here today, they got at least one adoption application submitted for a dog present, and generated a lot of interest in the shelter animals. The volunteer program's presence got them several new potential volunteers and a tidy pile of cash donations! Plus, seeing the dogs made people happy. That's always a good reason :)

As of this posting, all the dogs shown are still available for adoption! They're all great animals and would make wonderful family pets.

The beagle is D-41507 Dakota (very sweet, gets along with dogs and kids).

The German Shepherd is D-41214 Morgan (very smart and sweet, loves people and kids, gets along with dogs).

The big guy is D-36328 Randy (strong but obedient, loves playing, toys, swimming, dogs and kids).

There were other animal groups participating as well, including Make Peace With Animals, "a non-profit, all volunteer group dedicated to finding peaceful solutions to the many problems facing animals today". They brought three of their gorgeous, adoptable Greyhounds with them.

Live performances were held all day in addition to the vendors, displays and workshops, including what appeared to be an eco-friendly comedy routine for kids, and musical groups including bluegrass, jazz, and folk.

The park and mansion grounds were beautiful, the day was beautiful, and everybody had a great time. I highly recommend everybody attend next time around (and come visit the shelter's table and say hello to our kitties and doggies)!

Big thanks to the shelter staff and volunteers who helped make today a success!
